4. The South Hills Mall

Lest there be any doubt that I’m a Jersey girl, yesterday’s activity was a trip to the mall. Sadly, the indoor shopping options in this region are not great. Poughkeepsie has the Galleria, which is shiny and full of the basics, but not big enough to compare to my Paramus darlings. Kingston has the Hudson [...]

3. The Train Stain

This is the Poughkeepsie Train Station, which I think of as “The Train Stain” since the time Birmingham accidentally called it that in front of his friends. We all had a good laugh at his expense, and now it’s stuck. This particular station is the last stop on the Metro North Hudson Line, unless you [...]

2. The car cruise at the diner

I don’t want to make a big deal of this, but you may have noticed that I’m trying to re-instate the 30 activities-Hudson Valley project. The reason I don’t want to make a big deal is two-fold. One is that I’m leaving for San Francisco on Friday, so I won’t be here to report on [...]

1. The Mid-Hudson Bridge

The Mid-Hudson Bridge is a 3,000 foot long suspension bridge the Hudson Valley that soars 135 feet above the Hudson River and connects Highland to Poughkeepsie. It was conceived in 1923, construction started in 1925, and it was finished in 1930. I think it’s one of the prettiest bridges in the world. Even hula monkeys [...]

This is the end, my friends. The end.

Whew! 30 Activities in 30 Days: Hudson Valley. So now the question is, what next? I’ll resume my posting on my other blog and retire this one until I can come up with a new topic. I’ve had some suggestions from friends, and some random ideas such as: 30 Days: Hot Dishes. From The Gray [...]

Mr. Met comes out on top

The bulk of my blog readership joined me for my final 30 day activity at the Hudson Valley Renegades game Wednesday night (there were 6 of us.) Our seats in the posh reserve section had a great view of the world’s longest single A baseball game in recorded history. The game started a half hour [...]

The nexus of fried food, award winning pies, and smelly, smelly cows

I made a small addition to the 30 activities last night and went to the county fair. The Dutchess County Fair advertises itself as a throwback to the 18th century, a time when county fairs were still in their infancy and everybody who was anybody knew how to own and operate a cow. Nowadays, there [...]

Is it safe?

It was too hot to go to Storm King Art Center on Tuesday, so Birmingham and I made a last minute decision to go inner tubing down the Esopus River. We made this decision so last minute, by the time we got our butts up there, the last bus to the drop off point was [...]

Rooty Tooty Fresh and Fruity

I’m so lucky to have Adam’s Fairacre Farms be the closest supermarket to my home. As a vegetarian, produce is important to me because the other closest thing to a vegetarian restaurant nearby is a slice of cheese pizza from the Italian place on the corner. I stopped by Adam’s for the ingredients for my [...]

Debra T’s is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays

I wish I had known that before I walked a mile and a half to get there. And a mile and a half back.
