More or less, I’ve lived alone since graduating college in 2000. And I’ve had one serious relationship that’s been a through-line from 2003 until now. On this blog, he’s known as Birmingham. We don’t live together. The longest time we’ve ever spent together is when we went on vacation for a week in 2005, and this occasional dating thing is working pretty well for us, although as of this writing, we’re a real couple that gets together sometimes more than twice a week. At times I wanted more, and at times we broke up over that and some other things that seem silly in hindsight. During one of those break-up times, I dated a guy I met online. He seemed great, except that he wasn’t really that smart and used the word “douchebag” more than just occasionally. He was the kind of guy who didn’t eat anything that came from an animal, and told me that there was a real “stigmata” about being a vegan. And that’s when I missed Birmingham, but not enough to want him to move in, which is fine, because he didn’t want to move in.
