I would prefer the mo’ problems that come with mo’ money

I heard an ad on the radio that told me I could save $1,000 a year by making my own coffee at home.

So I bought a coffee maker.  And I bought filters.  And I bought coffee.  And I made coffee at home every day for a year.

Now I’m out $40 for the coffee maker, $5 for the filters, and about $75 in coffee.

Turns out you only save $1,000 a year if in the previous year you were buying pre-made coffee at a coffee shop.  If you weren’t drinking coffee to begin with, you’re actually down $120.

But at least I’m awake enough to do the math.

  1. You weren’t drinking coffee before? But how do you function in the mornings? Don’t tell me you’re just high on life at 5 am.

  2. Ha!

  3. Yeah, I really can’t even call myself me until I’ve had coffee.

I do love those savings tips that only help certain people in certain situations, but are doled out like the magic answer for everyone.

  4. Aw, man. That just sucks.

Well, since you now already own the coffee maker, at least you’ll be down a little less in the next year. Right?

Do you mind if I can borrow you coffee maker, I heard somewhere that I can save a bunch of money by making my own coffee at home. :=) Just kidding. You know the thing that I like about you is that you did not wait for anyone to discourage you from trying it out. It shows initiative to try new ideas.

  7. I don’t drink coffee but I’m not saving any money either. I just can’t win!

  8. False advertisement! How could they do that to you? Maybe you should check out those ads that say, “Make thousands of dollars without ever leaving the house!” I’m sure those are on the up and up.

  9. Ha! Love it.

  10. Hey! I can get to your blog now!

What’s that I’m feeling? It must be the filling in of that giant hole in my life that was previously occupied by the DT!

And creating a new addiction (coffee or otherwise) never saved anyone anything.

  11. But $10 a month is so worth the refreshing jolt of caffeinated consciousness.
