Today’s my birthday! I was trying to lay low to avoid any embarassing public displays of singing, but the cat was let out of the bag when at swim practice, someone said to me, “so, 32 today, huh?” and, kind of forgetting about the day myself said, “yeah, looks like we’re just not going to get above freezing until later in the week. Oh, wait, were you talking about the weather?”
“No, just wanted to wish you a happy birthday.” Oh! That too. Since I love patterns, I guess it’s neat that I’ve got one degree for every year. Thanks to global warming*, if we keep adding a degree a year, it will always be that way! Can’t wait for next year when I’m 11×3 years old on 1/11/11, although that makes me wish I was born on November 11th.
Anyhoo, my little exchange got overheard by song-happy teammate, and during practice this morning, right in the middle of my 200IM, that teammate got everybody to stop swimming, and I did as well because 1) I thought somebody was injured, or 2) I always do what everyone else does but 3) it turned out that they stopped me 1/4th of the way through my 200IM to sing to me, even though ABBA was on the radio, and already doing the singing so well.
It was a nice gesture wrapped in my very least favorite thing: being the center of attention. I tried to keep it a secret, but it’s true. It’s my birthday, and I’m looking forward to a 3:00 conference call and maybe I’ll get myself a cupcake at lunch.
*If you believe in that sort of thing. And by “that sort of thing” I mean “years of fact-based science.”

I kid, I kid. I’m with you on not wanting to be the center ‘o attention. That, and my birthday is is 2 days after some “Jesus” dude – so, he trumps my day a bit

Usually by the time my bday rolls around, I’m too exhausted from the holidays and stress to bother with my birthday.
