This blog has been password protected since mid-November. I was the only one with the password, and today, after a few tries, I remembered what the password was.
Why did I shut it down? It had nothing, nothing to do with you, reader, I promise. It had more to do with a scare that I had about privacy and the power the written word has to hurt others. The fastest, quickest, dirtiest thing I could do was take it off line by password protecting the whole thing. There was no way I was going to delete my baby, even though I had been neglecting and malnourishing her.
Also, as I’ve told some of you who emailed or called about the whereabouts of the Daily Tannenbaum, I’m annoyed that I haven’t had the time to give it some design and content love, and that’s another reason I didn’t want it languishing on its URL, a shadow of what it was in 2006.
So to catch up: no, I haven’t been reading your blog, but that’s because I haven’t been reading anyone’s blog, because I couldn’t bring myself to lurk without commenting. I’d like to catch up, but I don’t know if I’ll have the time, because time is another thing that 2009 took from me. I’ll try to get back in the swing, but it seems so daunting.
As for me, I’m still at the job I took in October, which I like very much, but I’m still looking for an additional source of income. There is nothing to publicly report from the dating scene of my life. However, my little sister did get engaged around Thanksgiving, so there’s a wedding being planned in the family. She also bought a house with her fiance and still has her fantastic dog Lola. I still rent in this white box apartment with the super kitchen. For Christmas, I got new pots and pans, and I plan to make good use of them.
On Christmas Eve this year, my parents, sister and I were driving home from dinner on our way home to change for church when a woman ran a stop sign and hit the back of the minivan, causing it to turn 180 degrees, and ruining the front of her Toyota. It was scary, and thank goodness for seatbelts, and thank goodness for our tight-knit family, who held it together and got home. Everyone was okay, even the lady who hit us head-on. In the moments from when I saw the headlights coming towards us to when we spun around to when we gave our statement to the cops, I realized I have no one who I would call to tell about the accident on a Christmas Eve. All the most important people in my life were in the car. It’s the kind of story you tell your blog, hit publish, and hope somebody reads it so that they remember to hug the people in their life and wear their seat belts. So here goes.

Welcome back! I haven’t password protected mine, but my posting has been very infrequent, so I totally understand! Don’t worry, thanks to the magic of Google Reader, we will be here when you write!

Oh my goodness, I am so glad you’re (generally) okay. Accidents are so scary–welcome back, even if it’s just for a post or two.
Lots of love,

A. Glad to see your back and B. Thank god for seatbelts, indeed! I was 4 years old and in the backseat of my Mom’s Citation when a drunk priest T-boned our car in an intersection. Because of seatbelts, we walked away with minor scratches. Soooo glad to hear that you’re all OK! And, Happy Holidays!
