Micki The Cat 1991-2009

Sad news. Micki, who I was starting to think was going to live forever, had to be put to sleep today.  In the past two weeks, she lost weight, her appetite, and was completely dehydrated.  I knew something was wrong when she stopped trying to kill Lucy.

She wasn’t the world’s nicest cat, and she surely was one of the more insane ones, but I loved her.  I was 13 when we got her, and that’s the part that hurts the most.  She’s been part of my life for more than half of it.

All the while, she never stopped acting like a kitten.  She was energetic, playful, annoying, and a ball of cuteness.  For some reason we could never figure, she was afraid of every person in the world except me, SisterAlyson and The Grey Boy.  She was even afraid of my dad, who diligently fed her every morning during the years my sister and I were away at college.  Her fear of people meant I was the only one who got to revel in the cute things that she did: standing on her hind legs when food was coming, going nuts if I made popcorn, waffles, or ate yogurt (her favorite people foods), and purring like a motor car while sitting on my computer.  At least I got some photos that captured her essense.

I’ll miss you, kitty.

  4. Aw. That was a lovely post. I’m so sorry she’s gone. Life will probably be more peaceful with only Lucy around (right?), but probably not as entertaining. Rest in peace, Micki.

P.S. I love the swim goggles shot. :-)

Hugs to you. There are some moments when my roommate’s cat tears through the house that remind me of Micki – oh, sad. Thoughts with you.

She was THE best cat. I can’t believe we got her in ’91. jeeze! I still remember when we immediately picked her out amongst all her brothers and sisters. We definitely made the right choice!

    bye bye Mickster.

  21. Awww. Poor little kitty.

  22. Sorry to hear the news :( . It’s very tough losing a pet – especially when it’s been a part of your life for such a long time.

    I’m sorry for your loss.

  31. Aw! So sad!

We’ll all miss the stories of the cat wars. Micki entertained us, for sure. And on a personal note, I’ll miss my counterpart in name, if not spelling.

  32. I’m so sorry to hear about Micki. That must be so difficult to lose your feline friend. :(

  33. Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear that. As much as I (and most cat owners) complain, we really do love having them around.

    How is Lucy doing?

    Hang in there!

I’m sorry to hear about Micki. Loosing a pet is always hard, especially when they’ve been in your life for as long as Micki had been.

    Sending kitty hugs.

  35. I’m so sorry to hear about Micki. Her not-so-niceness made for some really great stories. Losing any pet is hard, but I can’t imagine what it’s like after spending that much time together.

At first I thought “losing Micki” meant you could no longer locate her in the suitcase under the bed. Here’s to hoping that God is a woman or a gay man, so that Micki will let herself be petted in that great under-bed suitcase in the sky.

  37. Obviously chiming in late here, but I am so sorry about the loss of your cat. I’ve always thought it some sort of oversight that animals live such short lives compared to humans.

I’m late offering my condolences, but they are no less felt. Our pets become part of our history, and its hard to see an era come to an end. I’m betting that Micki is napping contentedly as I write, and her little cat heart beats lovingly for you as always. (is it ok if I thank you for the jam and the biscotti– so nice of you, so delicious! hugs..)

  39. I’m so sorry about Micki. I know how hard it can be to lose a beloved four legged family member.
