The cats are still driving me crazy. They fight, they yell for food hours before the alarm, they don’t like the food I give them and they cry, or they love the food, scarf it down, it and cry for more. They poop in a box in the bathroom, (and sometimes pee in the kitchen after a fight) and they leave fur on my stuff.
After I spent weeks trying to find a new home for Lucy, I had no luck. This morning, someone on my swim team asked me if I was still looking for a home for her, because she’s in the market for a new cat. And despite myself, I said no. I’ve really grown to love her, even if Micki has not. Besides, some days I worry that the 17-year-old Mickster might not be long for this world, and then I’ll be completely catless.
But most days I’m convinced she’s going to live forever, even if it’s just to spite me. She’s pretty damn frisky, and she’s gained some weight back since I put her on new food. Every day, I try and play with her a little so she can take the aggression out on things that aren’t her co-cat. The other day, I took a video of one of our play dates, in part because I want to remember the cute, and in part because she hides whenever anyone comes over, and I don’t think anyone believes me that she’s full of spunk. The following video is especially dedicated to SisterAlyson, who due to allergies and a New Yorker’s hesitance to leave the city to visit her dear old sister, never gets to see her best friend from childhood:
Yeah, she’s not going anywhere. And in other cat news:
California family finds lost cat after 13 years
Cat chases bear up tree (it’s old, I know, but I just can’t get enough)
The cat that predicts death (from a slightly more skeptical point of view)

From despair.com. Saw this on a comment on NPW yesterday.
(Apologies for being so cat-centric lately. Yesterday, I did also participate in interesting things like work, making dinner, eating dinner, watching “House” and going to Trivia Night. Then I had a weird dream about Tone Loc and the boy I had a crush on in second grade talking to my swim coach about my backstroke technique. I’m pretty sure it’s meaningless, because if it has meaning, I just don’t want to know. Either way, talking about cats seemed like the most interesting choice in blog topic.)

Did you make the bed just for us? And do you really need all those pillows?
No, I like to make the bed, because it keeps some of the cat hair off the sheets. And no, I don’t use all the pillows, I just never found a good place to store them in the new apartment, and Micki started using them for her own purposes, so I kept them there.

I freaking love Tone Loc. I want him to follow me around all day, talking. Doesn’t matter what–tech manuals, newspapers, whatever. Just talking.
You must be drinking the Funky Cold Medina.

I love her! She is sort of half-assing her play though. I noticed she’s laying down for most of it. But I really think she has many many more years left in her. I would love to see her and Lola play together.
That would be a showdown. And she usually plays more, but I was half-assing it because I had the camera in my right hand.

I feel your pain– my cat likes to pounce ON me in the middle of the night…some nights i want to throw him out the window. but then he acts all cute and i forgive him
I think there’s something in cat purrs that makes you forget the bad stuff.

Dreaming about Tone Loc? Interesting. Apparently Vanilla Ice is tending bar in NYC this weekend, if you really want to take a trip in the way back machine.
I hate the stupid microchip stories. I’m convinced they’re news plants to further the cause. But I’m still bitter about Argo’s giving him cancer.
Interesting point… Did they even have microchips 13 years ago?

P.S. Micki is VERY cute.
What is that they say about “the devil being pleasing of face?”

I could watch that cat playing for hours. Seriously, I just sat mesmerized for that entire clip.
I did too, for some reason. I was even there for the actual event.

I love that she lies there and does all her playing without really having to move. Cats, they really have it down right.
She’s so cute, I want an animal so bad! I wish my roommate wasn’t allergic
This is a redemption video in that manner.

She’s really cute. Nice Presidents reference.
Thanks! You get the prize for getting it…

Oh, I love Despair.com. Also, I was wondering if the cats were getting along better by now. Sorry to hear they’re not. I am sure your video is hilarious, but I will have to wait until later to watch it. Stupid work with my stupid nearby neighbors…
I went home for lunch, and Micki had corralled Lucy into the lining of the couch. So, no neither the condition of their friendship or my couch have improved.

Can you give Micki to your swim team friend?
Seeing her play kind of — kind of — makes me want a cat. It lasts about as long as it takes for me to remember how Lucydog reacts to cats.
I suggested that. I probably shouldn’t have played up her insanity first. Oh well.

I love Despair. I want to put up one of their calendars beside my desk at work, but I’m afraid that may be a tad unprofessional.
I hope you mean you love despair.com…

Pretty frisky for 17.
You should get some video of a Micki vs. Lucy encounter.
I would, but I don’t have the dexterity to operate the camera at 3am.

She looks GREAT for 17, I have to say.
I sometimes wonder why I put up with all the hassles of being a (many times over) cat owner, and I guess the answer is that I can’t imagine NOT having cats. Damn it.

Yeah, I might have gone Tone Loc over cats, but this is what makes our respective blogs unique AND awesome.

I enjoy reading all the post from Hollowing Hills about “Christmas Without Religion” and I wanted to visit all who posted.
We have one kitty Ziggy and he pretty well rules the place.
Or I should say no one gives him any crap.
Coffee is on.

OK, now that I have watched the video, I just have to inform you that I’m not sure you have quite enough pillows on your bed. Please remedy this before the next video post.

uuuuugh. my life has become so cat-centric and i don’t want it to be! correction, my life has become: kirsten vs. joey. the damn thing just knocked over one of my dining room chairs. wtf, cat?
Posted by teahouseblossom on November 15, 2008 at 1:21 am
Hahahahaha…too funny!
I am allergic to cats, so I’ve never had one. But I agree they can provide hours of amusement and joy.

As I’m trying to type this, my stupid cat decided to stand on my arm. So if anyone is looking for a new cat, let me know. He’s very loving.

This is exactly why I love dogs. Umm, well they have their own set of peculiar behaviors. Like vomiting on you while you sleep. Maybe there is just no winning with animals!
