After packing in all the activities of this weekend, I feel like it was at least 3 years since I left work on Friday.
On Monday, I became a last-minute hostess for a barbecue when the original hostess couldn’t make it to her own party. I ran to Stop & Shop to get some last minute beer. And I saw this display:
Because nothing says “thank you, fallen members of armed forces, for sacrificing your life to protect our borders” like plates and cups that get used one time and spend the rest of eternity in a landfill.
I love America! Can I get some Patriotic sprinkles on that?
You betcha.

America loves its BBQs, that’s for sure!
I played bocce ball this weekend, in order to be as Euro-pinko-esque as possible.

The thing that amazes me about America is our ability to commercialize EVERYTHING!

Nothing advertises one’s love for America better than red, white, and blue sugar coated cookies.

I’m crying patriotic tears.

is it necessary to salute the paper plates and cookies?
Posted by The Modern Gal on May 27, 2008 at 3:59 pm
What I love is that they have to tell you that those plates with the red-white-and-blue designs are patriotic. “These aren’t just any plates, they’re PATRIOTIC!”

Hee. But it would be a really patriotic-looking landfill!
It feels like three years since Friday for me as well… and also, oddly, like three hours. It was that sort of weekend, I guess.

i do like one change to this memorial day, well, maybe not change, but major new emphasis – to remember and thank current active soldiers, not just fallen heroes.
just for them, i ate about a dozen of those patriotic sprinkled cookies. nothing says America like a post-binge stomach ache.

Once again you prove that you are dedicated to your cause and you don’t take time off for holidays.
The cookies made me hungry.
