Paralyzed by choice

May 15, 2008 · 28 Comments

I was only in California for four days, but my job gives me two (or maybe three now?) weeks of vacation. I’m not certain, because we’re a small company, and our HR department is a desk calendar next to the fax machine where the employees note their days off.

I decided it would be a good idea to take off some extra days upon my return to the east coast to do some spring cleaning and gardening. I’m going back to work on Friday so that I don’t have to deal with a week’s worth of missing stuff on a busy Monday.

But today, I’m free to do what I want, any old time.

Between cleaning, gardening, exploring the Hudson Valley, or just sitting around drinking wine from Sonoma, I can’t decide what to do. Sitting on the computer going through the 500 blog posts in my reader sounds like fun in theory, but I’m pretty sure if I go to every blog in a row, you’re all going to get the same comment. “Sounds great! Sorry I missed it!” Works for most stories, unless someone happened to write about the death of his or her grandmother or getting laid off or something.

I just got up to blow my nose, because while I was away, my cat took the liberty of leaving her hair and dander on every corner of the cottage in protest of my absence. Now I’m having a major allergy attack. It would seem that my choice has been made for me: I need to clean. But getting up from the chair made me feel dizzy, so I’m just going to go back to bed, lying on my hands to keep them from itching my eyes.

Nine times out of ten, when I have to make a choice, I choose “nap.”

UPDATE: I took the nap.  It was glorious.  I promised myself that if I clean out my closet, I’ll get to take Nap: Part II, and if I finish weeding under the lilac bush, I’ll get to take Nap: the Revenge.

Nap is always the right choice.

Napping is always a good choice… If it were me, I’d nap, clean, nap, drink some yummy wine, nap, etc - you get the picture :)

    I don’t choose the naps…the naps choose me. ;)

Maybe the cat will clean while you’re napping.

Nap wins every time. (Although I think that sitting around drinking wine should be a close second.)

Napping is good. Napping doesn’t require energy. Napping is free.

Yes, nap. Sounds good to me.

I want a nap today like nothing else. Naaaaapppppp

    You’re back!

I say you have wine, then nap. Do you have a hammock? If it’s nice outside and you have a hammock at your disposal, that could make both the wine and napping parts of this plan all the more enjoyable. As an added bonus, you’ll be outside, away from the cat hair! It’s a win-win-win!

I think you made the right choice.

    Blogs are dumb anyway.

There’s nothing like using napping as motivation

  • 3carnations // May 15, 2008 at 12:28 pm

Not Nap II - Electric Boogaloo?

  • Kristabella // May 15, 2008 at 12:30 pm

I always choose naps. Which is why you can make a sweater out of the cat hair currently piled up in my house.

    I’m jealous. I’m not a good napper.

Take an extra nap for me!

Welcome back to the real work (that is, not California), where naps prevail! We missed you. Well, except for your Tweets.

Stop after Nap: The Revenge, though. The quality always falls off after the second sequel. You’re better off going to Sleep: The Movie.

Time off after time with parents, even with good parents, is always a good idea.

Days off in the middle of the week are the BEST. And anyone can use some parent recovery time.

One nap is divine but three? That’s a multiple napgasm.

  • Catheroo // May 16, 2008 at 12:13 am

I can’t remember the last time I took a nap. Glorious naps! And to think when I was little, my mom had to force naps on me. If I only knew how valuable naps were back then.

Your post was good and your Update was AWESOME. Can’t wait for you to Blog Nap: the Revenge.

I would vote for reading 500 blogs over cleaning. But that’s just me, the Dust Bunny Hostage.

    Be Blessed!

When I was getting ready for work this morning, there were a few minutes where I thought Monday was Memorial Day, and I got really excited about having the day off. But then I realized I still have another week to go. Boo.

    it’s so odd it’s almost a joke.

Hmm. Nine times out of ten, I choose “wine”. ;)

I am glad I could do my part to keep your blog load a little lighter, having only posted twice this week.

I thank you for doing the same since I’m now reading blogs in marathon catch-up sessions. I hope nap #3 happened for you and it was good.

  • andrea // May 18, 2008 at 3:57 pm

Naps! One of my favorite pasttimes! I hope you enjoyed all three and they were glorious.

  • jennifer // May 18, 2008 at 11:27 pm

You NUT!! And I mean that as the highest form of flattery.

Your comments always give me a giggle. Grape juice addiction indeed. What that mess did was leave a stain on that adorable shrug (you can see it on the front on the collar area) making it so that the wedding was the end of the pink sweater. :(

So in reality, Grape Juice ruins clothes!
