I couldn’t say up for the entire Oscar broadcast last night because I wanted to swim this morning. Thank goodness the best part is available on the internet:
(for some reason I can’t make this video embed on my site, and I’m not going to spend more than two minutes trying to figure it out. If you’d like to see who died in the past year, like I do, you can go to this site and scroll down a little.)
I was also heartened that this was the first year where all the “best song” nominees actually had something to do with the plot of the movie, and none were written by Randy Newman. Not that I have anything against him, but I think he’s had his due. Also, the winning song from “Once” is so beautiful that whenever it plays I fall in love with the first thing I see, which is why you will probably see a lot of random posts about my lovely, wonderful, supportive toaster oven.

That song from Once gets me every time. I kept thinking that my love for that movie was irrational because Chris only liked it whereas I loved it; it’s good to know I am not alone.

I only made it through the first half hour or so, hence I missed this song. I’ll have to find it on youtube.

Watch out for those toasters; they’re a fickle lot. They’ll break your heart every time, believe me.

That song has made me fall in love with my Ford Escort and I-95 like nobody’s business. I think it’s getting serious!

I love the song from “Once”! However, in fairness to Randy Newman, he has only won one Oscar in 17 nominations, so he had to keep writing and writing and thus be nominated and nominated until there was a pay off. Now he can rest on his laurels and open up some nomination slots for everyone else.

I missed the Oscars. I was watching this thing on Nature about raptors. I really am that big of a nerd.

i don’t have anything to comment on the oscar’s - i couldn’t stand them too boring - but i wanted to say that Noelle Tannenbaum is a perfect name for someone who lives on an xmas tree farm.
and this “decided that I could never be the kind of writer of the things I was reading” is exactly why I changed from an engliish major in school as well.

that, and I can’t spell “english” right.

The song from Once was the only award the whole night that I actually applauded with joy! I just love the song, and them.

Randy Newman may not have been represented this year, but I still had to complain on principle about THREE of the five songs nominated all being from the same damn movie.
And like Laurel, I cheered and began very enthusiastic arm pump gestures when the Once song won.
