There are very few benefits to waking up at 5:30, getting dressed for the pool, driving 11 minutes to the pool, finding that the pool is not open, and driving home. You can probably figure that out for yourself. But what you may not know is that there are certain advantages. Here are five:
- The sunrise today was stunning. Dark purples and pinks and streaks of gold. I don’t normally get to see the sunrise, because I’m swimming by then, and in a few days daylight savings time is going to push that all back an hour.
- There were three other people who didn’t know the pool was closed and we got to share a moment in front of the pool building door. A cold, dark moment.
- As I was driving home at 6:10, the radio station played “The News” by Carbon Silicon, which is my favorite song of all time, currently.
- I got to test my brakes, because sunrise is prime time for deer crossing. (The brakes work, the deer frolic on!)
- I have two solid hours to take a shower and eat breakfast before work. Also, my car should be slightly warm when I leave.
Other than that, this is bullshit.

But… why was the pool closed?

That is way to bad for you because it was an excellent morning to sleep in. If it weren’t for Olivia jumping on my head everytime the alarm went off I think I’d still be in bed.
and BTW, schools are closed today, you are swimming at the high school aren’t you?

That happened to me when I tried to go to my yoga class on Monday. Luckily, I did not wake up at 5:30 to be there, and actually, the instructor for the previous class took pity on the four of us who showed up and taught for our absent instructor anyway. So really my story is nothing like your story. Also, I would totally have gone back to bed.

Most excellent attempt to find the silver lining and be a glass half-full kind of chick.

I used to take the dog for walks super early and we saw the sunrise every morning. It was awesome. Not so awesome thought that I kept getting up to see the sunrise after I didn’t have to get up that early anymore. Sunsets are awesome, but sleep is better.

Way to look on the bright side, but yeah, that’s BS.

I meant sunrises. I’m usually awake to see the sunset. . .

As much as a Clash fan as I am, I should be listening to Carbon Silicon. Thanks for the tip!

whoa, thanks so much for the video. i stumbled upon it last week on the telly, and was racking my brain as to how and when mick jones started something new (they made no mention of the band or anything) and made a mental note to google it… then promptly forgot all about it. my clash loving boyfriend and big audio dynamite loving me will be thrilled

It never ceases to amaze me that you wake up that early to swim. Very impressive . . .

Agh I wish I lived in a place where deer could be found frolicking across the street.

I admire your silver lining-seeing ability. If that happened to me, I’d just be pissed. And sleepy.

Good attitude! But your good attitude sort of exhausts bad attitude little ol’ me.
