At the end of the year, I like to read what I blogged about last year. This is what I came up with:
The best things that happened in 2007:
I started swimming on a team, and watched my abilities improve precipitously.
I joined Facebook, where I connected with all kinds of people from my past. And played Scrabble with them.
Really broke in the new car by taking a great road trip.
I became much closer with my local friends.
I spent exactly zero days working as a location manager.
You all started reading this blog and I started reading yours.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
I moved my blog to WordPress, and even though this means I sometimes can’t comment on blogger sites, I find it much prettier. Oh, and the URL was the best gift to myself I ever got.
My Christmas miracle was the ability to walk without crutches. (For a few steps, anyway.) Also, I got some great socks. (not the ones with bones.)
The worst things that happened in 2007:
I played kickball, and then everything following the events of the night of November 1.
My favorite bookstore in the whole world closed.
Pluto got demoted.
The guy who invented ramen noodles died.
Had some unwanted winged intruders in the cottage.
I realized I couldn’t afford to buy a house on my own.
My yoga teacher left for a full time job and I haven’t been able to find a suitable replacement.
That other thing that I don’t want to talk about on the blog but can’t get off my mind.
But worst of all, George Bush is still president, and that won’t get better for another full year, and that sort of takes my hopes for a good 2008, at least in the world at large, away.
It fascinates me to look back with the perspective of time. That’s why this was my favorite post of the year.

I would like to think that meeting me ranks as one of your best things from this year, too, but that you just cleverly buried it in the road trip item so that NPW wouldn’t get jealous.
I am oh so sorry about the news you don’t want to talk about, and I am wishing you all sorts of good things (not just walking upright unassisted and driving with the doctor’s blessing) for 2008. Happy New Year!
It was a highlight, and I probably would have mentioned it specifically but for NPW’s feelings. Actually, I keep thinking of more good things from the year. Perhaps I should edit. Oh, and thanks for the email.

I am already jealous that both Stefanie and Beej have already got to hang out with you. That must be remedied soon.
Also, I hope that you’re doing okay. 2008 is going to be your year, I can feel it!
I’m sad that we haven’t met yet. I’ll make that a 2008 resolution. And all in all, the year was good. It just contained some monumentally sad events.

You had a nice year…and hope that 2008 will be much better and more fun for you!
Happy new year!
I did have a nice year. I hope you have a great 2008!

Noelle - It has been joyous getting to know you via the blogs and a few quick emails. Thanks for being exactly who you are and sharing you with me (us).
My heart goes out to you on the non-commentable post and everything that goes with it in real life. Sad.
For 2008 - I’m a believer in affirmations. I release the people, places, things, experiences, circumstances and beliefs that no longer serve my greater good. I attract the people people, places, things, experiences, circumstances and beliefs that serve my greater good.
Goodbye 2007. Happy 2008!
It’s been good to know you and your perspective as well. Happy 2008!

I have thoroughly enjoyed playing Facebook scrabble with you, and intend to continue the habit/hobby into 2008.
Have a great one!
I enjoyed the cache of saying I was playing scrabble with someone down under. In 2008, I’ll enjoy playing scrabble with someone across the pond, I guess. Have a great new year, even if you have to celebrate it half a day late!

Yeah, I’m with NPW, I call bullshit that Ben has met you. Not so much Stefanie, because I don’t really know her outside the world of TRON, but you get the idea.
“Meeting” you and discovering your blog was definitely one of the highlights of my year, and I should also tell you that you were my first ever “random stranger” commenter, which will always make you kinda special in the FC book.
Happy New Year, Christmas Christmas Tree.
Yeay Aaron! Let’s resolve to meet for real in 2008. We can even let Ben come.

Here’s a little treat for you to end the year: Blogger will let you comment again! Still depends on the blog owner allowing it, but on my blog click “Nickname” and then you’ll have the URL field like you used to
I found a bookmark from your favorite bookstore yesterday. I tucked it safely inside my current book.
Hope 2008 brings you lots of happiness!
I love that bookmark. The books and the lamp and all. Blogger’s still not letting me comment to my delight. If I press “post” and it deems that I’m “not signed into WordPress” it deletes the comment. It’s a very imperfect system. I work around it by copying my comment before posting. But sometimes I forget and get frustrated, and don’t comment.

WHOOPS! That’s me just above. And here I thought I was all stealthy with the new blog. Obviously, I need to rethink that plan!
Thanks for clearing up the mystery… It all takes a little practice. Happy new year, btw!

It’s all been said. Thanks for being one of my must-reads and keep plugging away. To a newbie blogger, you’ve been an inspiration.
Aw, shucks. One would never even know you were a newbie. Have a great 2008! Now, I’m off to my New Year’s party in Philly! See you all on the other side…
mfijal98 // December 31, 2007 at 12:01 pm
I love your blog!
Here’s to the best 2008 EVER!
Also, I think we should have a big blog party. Maybe we could close off a steet or something and call it a Blog Around the Block Party!

H got a shirt for Christmas from his Republican brother-in-law that says something like “1/20/09, The End of An Error, Last Day In office for GWB.”

Happy New Year and congratulations on your few crutchless steps!
Also - I’m sorry about the news that you don’t want comments on. I’m a bitch for commenting on it anyway, no?
Anyway….I hope 2008 is filled with goodness and is injury-free for you!

I know you will have an amazing 2008!
I’m really looking forward to this year - I will be able to get the senior citizen rate at the local movie theater and I will be eligible for Social Security….
I also plan to sign up for tango lessons,a rent a villa in a small Italian village, go hot air ballooning and start a new career.
Life is grand…..enjoy every opportunity…..go for the brass ring …and dance to your own beat….cha cha cha.

Happy New Year!
That was a great post. I still liked your Alice’s Restaurant Thanksgiving post best, even though it was a rehash from last year. It’s still fabulous.
Oh, and CONGRATS on walking! I’m sorry you didn’t get the bone socks though.

Hey, I was finally catching up on all my blog reading and just wanted to add to the above post to say (even though I’m not commenting on it) that you rock (because you do and I’m in this lovey dovey ‘it’s new years tell people who rock that they do’ thing right now) and I wish you all the best and tons of happiness in the new year.
(Do you think tons is the appropriate measurement of happiness, I was torn between tons and eons.)

I know that different blog sites are funky with passwords but knowing that folks are there is a good feeling.
I agree with Mickey, you are inspiring - and I love your blogs! I LOVED the one with the picture of your kitchen shelves, I felt like a voyeur.

Erikka // January 2, 2008 at 11:49 am
ps. if what you don’t want to talk about is what I think it is…I’m sorry. if we were neighbors, I’d bake you some cookies we could eat with some tea.

Happy New Year!
What a momentous 2007 you had, and I’m so glad you shared it on your blog!
Kelli // January 3, 2008 at 10:14 am
Hey there.
New Year’s resolution #748 - catch up on all the blogs I love since December took virtually all my reading time away from me.
You’ve been reading my blog long enough to know what I’ve gone through at the end of a 4 year relationship. And I know you probably don’t want to talk about it so I’ll leave it at this - just know I’m lending an internet shoulder if and when you ever need it.
While Bush might still be in the white house for another year (although let that count down truly begin!) I have a feeling 08 will be great for all of us in some way.
Hang in there & Happy New Year.
