Thursday was a snow day over here in the Hudson Valley. I woke up early to shower and get ready for work. I’m down to only 45 minutes for showering! W00t! I’m smart, so I decided not to drive myself to work, because even at 5 minutes, my drive home is mostly uphill, and I don’t quite have the requisite abilities for getting a car out of stuck snow right now. It also meant that I got to ride home in my boss’ Mini Cooper, which is always kind of fun. By the time I left work at 11 in the morning, there was already about 3 inches down. It turns out that walking in snow in crutches is not actually that difficult, because the rubber bottoms cut right through to solid ground and provide great stability. Also, I leave really, really cool tracks.
My computer’s still broken, but I’m borrowing the company laptop, because I’d probably go stir crazy and start killing people if I was home alone all day with nowhere to go, no TV to watch, and no internet to browse. I guess it is a good thing that I live alone. Actually, there is an outside chance I may kill my cat, because at this very moment, she is desperately trying to rub her chin all over the screen of the computer. I have given up on trying to get her to stop doing this to my ibook, but since I’m not the only person to use this computer, I feel that maybe, it’s not a great idea for the screen to be covered with the scent glands of Micki. Other than that, she’s been a pretty good companion, and part of my heating system because she’s been more interested in lap sitting lately, and a girl needs a warm body sometimes. Lest this post become some crazy cat lady entry, I’ll leave it at that.
Other than that, I spent my snow day being productive. I swept, mopped and vacuumed my kitchen (it is somewhat nice doing housework while sitting in a rolling chair. I may do this even when I can walk again.) I made gingersnap cookies from a Cooking Light recipe, and they are really good, if I do say so myself. I’m going to use them to thank my neighbors for shoveling my walk, and for letting me piggyback off of their internet connection. At the very least, it was a good use of the molasses that had been sitting around in my pantry forever. Lastly, I watched four episodes of the 1st season of Heroes, and 2 episodes of Pushing Daisies from ABC.com, now with more commercial breaks! Goodness, it’s too bad that those producers can’t figure out how to take the money from those commercials and use them to PAY THE WRITERS so that we can have more shows. I guess it’s just really, really hard.
Speaking of really, really, hard, I tried to brush off a foot of snow from my car this morning. I was only able to uncover the right half of the rear windshield. (Which, ironically, after making my 12th car payment, is about how much of the car I own.) So I’m standing there balancing on crutches, snow seeping through my ratty left shoe, and trying to keep snow from getting on my exposed right big toe, wearing my backpack because I have to get to work, reaching as far as I can with the ice scraper, thinking about how I will get the snow off the tires because the shovel is at the far end of the un-shoveled path, and I broke a little. I called for a ride instead, and now I’m at work. (I wrote the first, happier, part of this post last night.)
Speaking of weather, let’s all cross our fingers and hope really, really, hard that whatever bad weather comes this weekend won’t interfere with my 7:30 doctor’s appointment on Monday morning. That’s when the jerk doctor is supposed to clear me for walking, and I don’t want to wait one minute more for that. In the meantime, I hope you’re all warm and safe, and all that.

Oooh! I’ll keep my fingers cross for your Monday appointment! Walking!
I noticed the same thing about ABC.com. For a little while it seemed like every time I watched a show the commercials were just for other shows and I wondered if they were trying to make a point, but the last time I watched, it was full of real commercials again and there were so many more. So how are they not making money? Maybe that was a public service announcement from Excedrin?
Have you noticed ABC.com is putting up an episode of My So Called Life every Friday? It’s weird to watch it now. I have a totally different perspective.
I didn’t know about MSCL, now that I have a computer that can sustain video feed, I’ll have to check it out!

I just read that same thing about “w00t” being deemed a “real” word over at Bleeding Espresso. It breaks my word-nerd little heart. We must not let the terrorists win! (The terrorists, in this case, of course, are the texters and IMers who are ruining our language.)
More important, glad you had a productive snow day, and my fingers are crossed for your appointment on Monday!
Is this the first word with numbers to make it? Should we be worried?

Light and fluffy my a$$. You know it looks that way until you have to start cleaning off your car and shoveling out. I love mother nature, I do. I even like the snow. But it still boggles my mind that people living in this area of the country, where snow isn’t uncommon, are still unable to function in it.
I’m glad to see that even with one good leg you were out there giving it the ol’ college try. Kudos to you!
The sad thing is that I actually kind of like shoveling.

Dig the tracks. They’ll look a bit less interesting on Monday, though, what with two feet and all (the power of positive thinking.) Then again, I assume you’ll still be in a walking cast, so that could still confuse any potential trackers. You should probably walk backwards just in case. You can never be too sure.
I don’t want to hear about this 2 feet of snow crap.

Your tracks in the snow look like PIRATE tracks. neat-o. i want a snow day too…just to bake cookies, sew and knit, and be all cozy in a snow cocoon. Gone are the good ol’ days of middle school snow days.
I feel like a pirate without a parrot.

I love the word woot. I also love the website woot.com. Yesterday was the worst commute home, ever, and today was supposed to be my big trip to NY but it was all ruined by the g.d. snow. Luckily I had today scheduled off anyway, so all the rest of the suckers are at school and I am snug on my couch.
Woot.
Enjoy your day off! I’m sorry your city trip got canceled, though. I miss the city so much.

I was all ready for some serious snow day in NYC, but no dice. It ended up just being miserable and wet, with no festive blanket of white snow or commute slowdown to make the misery worthwhile.
It’s so funny that just an hour and a half up the road we got the full 12 inches.

How come Micki doesn’t get a fake-blog name?
1. Like we talked about last night, I don’t think cats are people, and therefore, I don’t think she cares that her real name is on a blog. I don’t think she even cares that she has a name. 2. I just wasn’t feeling creative. 3. I like seeing her name in print. It reminds me of being 13 and thinking every name was better when it ended in “i.”

The “two feet” I was referring to in my earlier comment are your actual feet, the ones you will be walking on come Monday, as in the bottoms of your legs. Unfortunately, you may also have the other two feet you were referring to.
stupid English language. LOL.

I used w00t in a post today, too. It must be in the air–or blair, which is a brand new work (right now) for blogosphere air. That’s double the corruption! W00t! I own!
Congrats on the showering! It’s getting better every day.

It’s weathering here right now. Icy, cold, rainy, snowy weather.
And I can hear my heat coming up again and again, ticking off dollars from my bank account.
Where is that global warming when you need it?
Here’s crossing fingers for you for Monday!

hope you get good news from the doctor today!!

ps. Noelle – are you having issues commenting on my site? i’m hearing some weird feedback.

I hope you are walking now!

Thursday’s snow made me angry. As if there was anyone to rail against. And yet: I do this every time snow inconveniences me; as if the universe has a grudge against me, and me alone.
I’m seriously considering getting some crutches for snow hikes; you make it sound so fun.
