Thursday was a snow day over here in the Hudson Valley. I woke up early to shower and get ready for work. I’m down to only 45 minutes for showering! W00t! I’m smart, so I decided not to drive myself to work, because even at 5 minutes, my drive home is mostly uphill, and I don’t quite have the requisite abilities for getting a car out of stuck snow right now. It also meant that I got to ride home in my boss’ Mini Cooper, which is always kind of fun.  By the time I left work at 11 in the morning, there was already about 3 inches down. It turns out that walking in snow in crutches is not actually that difficult, because the rubber bottoms cut right through to solid ground and provide great stability. Also, I leave really, really cool tracks.

My computer’s still broken, but I’m borrowing the company laptop, because I’d probably go stir crazy and start killing people if I was home alone all day with nowhere to go, no TV to watch, and no internet to browse. I guess it is a good thing that I live alone. Actually, there is an outside chance I may kill my cat, because at this very moment, she is desperately trying to rub her chin all over the screen of the computer. I have given up on trying to get her to stop doing this to my ibook, but since I’m not the only person to use this computer, I feel that maybe, it’s not a great idea for the screen to be covered with the scent glands of Micki. Other than that, she’s been a pretty good companion, and part of my heating system because she’s been more interested in lap sitting lately, and a girl needs a warm body sometimes. Lest this post become some crazy cat lady entry, I’ll leave it at that.

Other than that, I spent my snow day being productive. I swept, mopped and vacuumed my kitchen (it is somewhat nice doing housework while sitting in a rolling chair. I may do this even when I can walk again.) I made gingersnap cookies from a Cooking Light recipe, and they are really good, if I do say so myself. I’m going to use them to thank my neighbors for shoveling my walk, and for letting me piggyback off of their internet connection. At the very least, it was a good use of the molasses that had been sitting around in my pantry forever. Lastly, I watched four episodes of the 1st season of Heroes, and 2 episodes of Pushing Daisies from ABC.com, now with more commercial breaks! Goodness, it’s too bad that those producers can’t figure out how to take the money from those commercials and use them to PAY THE WRITERS so that we can have more shows. I guess it’s just really, really hard.

Speaking of really, really, hard, I tried to brush off a foot of snow from my car this morning. I was only able to uncover the right half of the rear windshield. (Which, ironically, after making my 12th car payment, is about how much of the car I own.) So I’m standing there balancing on crutches, snow seeping through my ratty left shoe, and trying to keep snow from getting on my exposed right big toe, wearing my backpack because I have to get to work, reaching as far as I can with the ice scraper, thinking about how I will get the snow off the tires because the shovel is at the far end of the un-shoveled path, and I broke a little. I called for a ride instead, and now I’m at work. (I wrote the first, happier, part of this post last night.)

Speaking of weather, let’s all cross our fingers and hope really, really, hard that whatever bad weather comes this weekend won’t interfere with my 7:30 doctor’s appointment on Monday morning. That’s when the jerk doctor is supposed to clear me for walking, and I don’t want to wait one minute more for that. In the meantime, I hope you’re all warm and safe, and all that.
