The Daily Tannenbaum

And the [yet to be decided] prize goes to…

December 3, 2007 · 31 Comments

Thanks, everyone who participated in commenting on my blog during NaBloPoMo. You are all winners. I especially want to thank everyone who commented right after my accident. Because I had no internet access during the three days I was in the hospital, my sister read off the comments to me over the phone. To have all these people, those who know me and those who don’t, send well-wishes, it really made my day. I don’t know if I can ever thank you properly.

And as for the winners of The November 29 “guess what number I’m thinking of?” contest: The number I was thinking of was…..

30!

Because, of course, I’ll be 30 right around the time I can walk again. That means the winner is Liz! If you all have a minute, you should go to Liz’s blog because she is funny and generous and always has a good story to tell.

As for the drawing, here’s how it went down.

Before I announce the winner, I have to mention that NancyPearlWannabe schooled you all. She commented 54 times, and has 54 entries in the hat. Additionally, she also had comment #54. Ironically, in the month of November, I had 54 individuals comment, and 54 is my favorite number. As far as other numbers, my 192 comments were made by 20 individuals. In the month of November, the post with the most unique commenters was November 2, where 25 people responded to my sister’s news that I got hurt. But back to the contest. Like Deb said, all it takes is one person to win the drawing. This is how I did it:

I love me a spreadsheet, and this is a list of all the people who commented last month with an “x” next to the day they commented and the Simpsons in the background.

img_1755.jpg

Here are all the names, printed out with Ralph Wiggum in the background:

Here are all the names, put into a hat:

And out comes the winner:

Congratulations Evil Kate! I don’t know her that well yet, but from what I’ve seen, she’s not really evil, in fact, she seems downright nice, but I don’t want to ruin her reputation… You should visit her blog yourself and find out for yourself.

Now, for the winners of NaChriCoMo, the contest to comment every day of NaBloPoMo. This year, it will be spit among five people! So, you will each get 1/5 of a Christmas tree!

Just kidding. I actually have five prizes in mind, one for each of you. The winners are:

Aaron, who I knew would win this as soon as I announced it. The kid’s got determination. He also apparently has a post-it note taped to his computer to remind him to comment. If you are not a regular reader of his, you should go over and see him. He’s like the leader of the nerds, and a throughly enjoyable writer.

Hope took advantage of my lenient rules, and commented on all the remaining posts at the last minute. And despite her cramming, she had lots of good stuff to say. I like Hope, because she is my original fan. Way back when, the only people who knew about my blog were my family and my co-workers, and Hope came along from out of the blue and started reading. So I encourage everyone to go over there and she what she’s about and show her some love!

Nancy Pearl Wannabe is another blogger who takes her contests seriously. She managed to comment every day, even when it was by phone. That’s dedication. I really should have told her she could have used Hope’s method, but it was really nice seeing new comments over Thanksgiving weekend. Girl, I hope you get some time to sit back, take a break, and keep delivering your fantastic blogging skills!

RDL is yet another winner. I was so glad to see her pop into the fray every day, especially with her knowledge of some of the ins and outs of the medical community. I encourage you to stop by her blog as well, especially on Fridays when she posts a weekly joke. It’s good stuff.

Stefanie is the 5th winner of NaChriCoMo, and I’m delighted! I had the pleasure of meeting Stefanie on my recent trip to Minneapolis and of reading her alphabetical blog during NaBloPoMo. She’s got a great perspective, and she’s a great gal. So happy for you, everyone, go over there and let her know she’s awesome!

But what about the others? Those 54 people who bothered to say hello at least once in November? Yeah, you’re all winners too. You’ve all made my day and my blogroll, and I want everyone to know why. So here’s a shout out to you all who came, saw, and commented:

Allie (26 posts commented) writes a great blog about the environment and being green. She is filling the void left when I decided Treehugger was out of touch with reality.

-R- (19 posts) also writes a wonderful Minneapolis-based blog, and I got to meet her on my vacation as well. She also hosted the NaBloPoMo blog share, and did a great job with that. She’s got some great stuff on her blog.

Mickey (18 posts) is new to the Daily Tannenbaum family, and one of the handful of new blogs I’ve found through NaBloPoMo ‘07, and I really enjoy it, I think you will as well.

Sobe (14 posts) is a mom and a cool chick. I newly started reading her blog, and she’s just made it through NaBloPoMo. Congrats!

Stiletto Heights (13 posts) is yet another person I found through the Funky Carter circle. And I’m glad, because she’s a fantastic artist, and some of her work will be donning my gift list this year. I encourage you to go check it out for yourself! Even die-hard Marie Osmond fans can’t deny she’s got talent.

3Carnations (12 posts) is yet another great writer with access to a blog. She’s a bit of a mystery woman, keeping her anonymity much better than I ever can, yet she has a real personality and she keeps her writing fresh and almost 100% text.

Erikka (11 posts) is new to my blogroll, and I’m glad to have her. Her blog is a mix of the personal, political, and introspective. I also love the picture she has on the masthead. It find it to be so striking each time I click through to her blog.

The Dutchess of Kickball (9 posts) What to say about this fantastic gal who missed the final kickball game to follow the ambulance and hold my hand while I was poked, prodded, and jostled before getting any painkillers? She’s been there to get me out of the house even when I didn’t want to go, and I’m so glad that I was lucky to be assigned to her team during the first season of kickball. And on top of that, she came over to comment. Thanks!

Gregory (9 posts) writes a blog called “Objective Perspective” and the guy’s got perspective to share, that’s for sure. If you have a moment, go check him out because he’s got a world view and a positive attitude that can’t be beat.

Kir (9 posts) is a friend from last year’s NaBloPoMo, and she was a gateway to many other great blogs on my roll. This year, she made a huge move from Rochester to San Fransisco, and last I heard, she was suffering from a bad case of strep. So if you have a minute, go over and give her some love. While you’re there, check out some of her archives, because she’s a great blogger.

Lara (9 posts) If you’re going to have the awesome url “Red Red Whine” you better have the writing chops to match. Oh, and Lara does. If you go over there and comment, you may get a crazy error message, but that doesn’t mean your comment didn’t go through, and I’m sure that doesn’t mean she doesn’t appreciate it!

Tine (8 posts) is another real-life kickball friend. I think she’s let her blog go inactive, but I’ll link to it in case she picks it up again. When I was injured, she lent me a purple blanket to keep me warm on the field, and it stayed with me through my entire hospital stay. Thanks for that!

Alynda (7 posts) is an Aussie schoolteacher blogger and a NaBloPoMo ‘07 completionist. She’s gearing up for a move to England to be with her man, and I hope it goes well for her. If you have time, check out her blog, she’s got a great spirit.

Anika (7 posts) is another person who found my blog randomly, and I’m so glad, since she also has an enjoyable blog. She doesn’t post as often as we all would like, but when she does, it’s good stuff. Go over there and encourage her to do more!

Bossy (6 posts) Has an A-list blog, but she still comes over to say hello, and I love that. It makes me want to make you all go over there right now and read her blog. Marvel at her use of color and photoshop, and wish that she was your mom.

Jamie & John (6 posts together) I’m linking this crazy couple together because they co-blog under the same handle. These are my college friends who blog in order to keep us all up to date on their life in London. Thankfully for all of us stateside, they are about to move back home, and they are about to become a family of three. Thanks for stopping by, and for your kind wishes!

Meghan (6 posts) Is one of those bloggers who doesn’t feel the need to blog every day, and that’s fine, because fans like me will keep coming back to see if there’s something new. If you’re into the RSS like I am, add her now. You won’t regret it.

xsquared (6 posts) Writes a blog with a cross stitch theme, but sill manages to be interesting to non-crossers like me. Must be her brevity and excellent picture taking skillz.

Laurel (5 posts) Is one of those people whose name I saw pop up in the comments of people in my blog circle. Yet I never bothered to stop over until this month. I thought I was reading too many blogs to start another one. I was so wrong. You can never read too many blogs! Especially if when it comes to Sass Attack.

Brando (4 posts) is on the cusp of fame, I know it. His blog is often as funny as anything you’ll see in The Onion. And to boot, his recent “battle against infertility” was some of the most touching stuff I’ve read in a while. If you’re not reading Circle Jerk at the Square Dance, you’re missing out.

Deb (4 posts) is new as of this year’s NaBloPoMo, and I have to admit I haven’t had much time to get to know her yet. However, I do like going over there when I can, and you should go there too.

Kelli (4 posts) also spent a portion of November contemplating a big move. If you have really good eyesight, you should go over there and take a look (Kelli, I keep meaning to tell you that your writing skills are marred by teeny tiny font, at least on my browser.)

Sister Alyson (4 posts) has no interest in blogging, or any kind of social networking online. But she does drop rare comments every once an a while. I also am completely grateful that her quick fill-in work kept me in the running for NaBloPoMo when I was laid up, and that she doesn’t mind that I have the Absolute salt and pepper shakers.

Jennifer M (3 posts) is a friend from college and stopped by to comment even though she was in Afganistan! Thanks for that!

Pam (3 posts) is another newish blog friend. She’s one of those “gateway friends” from Kir, and is still living in Rochester. So obviously, she needs some sunshine in her life. Go and visit and say hello, why don’t you?

Birmingham (2 posts) is an elusive guy. He wrote a post for me and thought it would be okay to just be the first commenter and not take credit for it. I’m about anonymity around here, but not that much! Anyway, thanks for reading, you.

Courtney (2 posts) is the better half of Mickey. Yet, I keep forgetting to add her to my RSS reader, because I have some kind of issue with reading more blogs. I just went over there to get her URL, and she’s added now. Why don’t you join me and learn more about this cook chick?

Elizabeth (2 posts) is my mom. Also, a guest writer during my trip to the hospital. Sometimes she likes to comment, and I love it when she does. It reminds me of the time when she was my only commenter. I think she’s also my biggest fan, and I’m cool with that.

Flick (2 posts) is another real-life kickball friend who is getting me through life without a car. Thanks to her open invitation for America’s Next Top Model Wednesdays and her love for trivia night, I’m not too bored as an invalid.

Jozet (2 posts) came from the randomizer, and then left. She’s got a good blog. Maybe we should all go over there and encourage her to come back.

Beej (1 post) I always forget to visit him since his blog is password protected and doesn’t come up on RSS. But then I do and catch up a little. He’s the one person in the “Funky Carter” circle that I’ve met in real life. Twice! I hope good things happen for him and his adorable daughter.

Written Nerd (1 post) blogs about book industry stuff three times a week. In the past year, I’ve gotten to know her much better, which is great. Without revealing too much about The Place We Do Not Blog About, I’ll say that I’m looking forward to working with her much more in the future.

Candy (1 post) came by once from Alynda and it was nice. If you’re still around, say hello again sometime! And thanks for the link, Alynda!

Chachi (1 post) is a college friend. I suspect him to be a lurker. I don’t get to see him that much, but it’s always a pleasure when I do.

Dan (1 post) also a lurker/college friend. I’m not quite sure what his online habits are, but I love it when he comes over to say hello.

DM (1 post) stopped by to play one entry in the comment contest. I hope she comes back for the daily fun!

Donna (1 post) was here to remind us all that there is always someone who is injured worse than you are. While the broken ankle has hindered life as I know it, I know I’ll recover, possibly better than new. I appreciate Donna telling her story about how much worse things could get.

Ho-ho-kus man (1 post) I’m not sure why he chose this screen name, but this is a co-worker who commented because I was testing something, but he actually had something good to say, so we kept it.

Jess, aka Dude the Girl (1 post) Is a college friend who has got to say hello more often! Or perhaps I should do more to keep in touch than just post blog entries. Anyway, I hope Minneapolis is treating you well!

LittleStar89 (1 post) came by on day 1 to tell me that my activities looked good. Then she never came back. I hope she wasn’t disappointed to learn that the activities were being put on hold.

Maria (1 post) a mystery woman. She stopped by to lend her two cents about “Mr. Splashy Pants” but left no return address! I hope, whoever you are, you come back again!

Mermu (1 post) is someone I met through a friend a long time ago. She is one busy lady, as you can see from her blog. I’m glad to know her, and I’m always happy when she stops by!

Mfijal89 (1 post) I think I know who this is, since she was featured in a screenplay by Aaron called “Birthday of the Dead.” But as she posted this way, I’ll keep her this way and thank her from the bottom of my heart for stopping by and encourage her to come back, now, ya hear?

Noelle (1 post) Yeah, I commented on my own blog. Five times on one post. So perhaps I should say I only got 187 comments that day. That’s why, when I respond to your comments, I tack them on to the existing one. Don’t like to skew the numbers too much.

Pagalina (1 post) A post or a comment from Pagalina is like a rare bird. You treasure it when you see it, and hope for more. She is a busy mom, so I don’t begrudge her for not writing more. I just hope that she doesn’t stop!

Shane (1 post) is a work friend. I don’t really know why she uses this as her handle, but I’m glad when she does come around, even though I spend most of my waking life looking at her. (She sits across from my desk.)

Tucker (1 post) is the highly patient boyfriend of Flick. Not that dealing with Flick is difficult, but dealing with the fact that we invade his home every Wednesday night and harass him when he doesn’t love it. He’s also a member of the famed Team Underpants and a large part of why I love living here.

And that’s all the people who gave comment love. Thanks, for giving me this opportunity to kiss your ass back. And congrats to all the winners. Please send me an email at dailytannenbaum @t gmail d0t com with your contact info so I can send your prize!

Thanks for the props, and thanks for a great NaBloPoMo read. Could you please give me a “c”, though? (the letter in my name, not the grade) Thanks. “Mikey” is what my first grade teacher called me because she could never get it right. By the way, I liked the fresh snowfall pic I saw on your banner yesterday. We don’t get a whole lot of that down here.

Sorry, spelling is not my strong suit. Even when I see it right in front of me. I’m saving the snow pic for later, I think.

Hooray for everyone, and hooray for you! Even when you’re not holding any sort of contest, you know I read your blog every day; it’s one of my favorites!

And: I’m so excited about the prize and the shout-out that I don’t even care that I didn’t win anything on NaBlo. Thanks, Christmas Tree!

    PS - Congrats, Evil Kate!!!

I like games where everyone wins. Except when it’s Monopoly, because I like to win Monopoly.

  • EvilKate // December 3, 2007 at 9:15 am

    Mr. MET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yay! I’ve never won an internet contest before.

I’d like to thank the Academy, my family, my dedicated readers and friends, and all the people who voted for me. Or just CCT, whatever. I am going to sit back and bask in the glow of this win.

Don’t forget to go to the afterparty!

  • nancypearlwannabe // December 3, 2007 at 9:27 am

Heh. I schooled everyone. Well, there can be only one winner. Or, if you’re at the Daily Tannenbaum, 54 winners. At least I won something here since once again I got jack from NaBlo!

You are always a winner in my eyes.

  • BOSSY // December 3, 2007 at 9:37 am

“Bossy… wsh that she was your mom.”

Well Bossy certainly feels as though she birthed a nation.

I don’t know how to take that. I do hope that you sit back and make yourself a cup of tea, woman.

  • stefanie // December 3, 2007 at 9:58 am

Aaron may be the king of the nerds, but with that spreadsheet and the detailed counting of comments and such, you are the runner-up for sure.

I am so excited to be a co-winner of NaChriCoMo!

Also, love the new masthead pic… and yay Ralph Wiggum! :-)

Yeay winners! I’m glad you like the new masthead. It’s my actual Christmas Tree and my actual crutches and my actual santa hat.

  • Allie // December 3, 2007 at 10:24 am

That was so cool to get a run down of who’s who.

So, unrelated, but I’ve been renting Battlestar one DVD at a time from Blockbuster. Yesterday, the kid behind the counter asked, “So are you like a Trekkie too?” I’m still laughing about it.

I thought you all deserved it. I may offend some with this, but I’m certain that BSG is 1000 times better than Star Trek.

  • lizgwiz // December 3, 2007 at 11:24 am

Whoo hoo! I love blog contests! Okay, more specifically…I love WINNING blog contests!

And I love that you love it.

  • mfijal98 // December 3, 2007 at 11:38 am

Yay!!!! Congrats to all of the winners! :) Great blog CCT! :)

    Thanks!

  • -R- // December 3, 2007 at 11:39 am

Darn. I won nothing. But at least I am still a winner in your book!

You are totally a winner, prize or no.

  • 3carnations // December 3, 2007 at 12:48 pm

To write something nice about everyone who commented on your blog last month? Awesome. Time consuming I’m sure, but so nice.

You rock. I don’t think I participated, but somehow I won.

    Thanks. :)

you participated, and that was all it took. I’m glad you liked the extended blogroll.

  • Meghan // December 3, 2007 at 12:59 pm

Wow–A spreadsheet! That is organization my friend! Thanks for the shout out. Congrats on making it through the month of November.

I excel at excel, to the point where I scare myself.

  • Michelle // December 3, 2007 at 1:36 pm

Woot woot! I figured out how to sign in as “me”! Congrats again, one and all!

Yeay! One more blog for the roll…

  • Erikka // December 3, 2007 at 3:15 pm

I am so jealous. Can you tell us what they won? So I can pine more…

Also, I like the baseball dude (Mr Met…?) but as he’s holding EvilKate’s name, he absorbed some of her evil. Look at that arched eyebrow and grin.

I’m actually kind of evil, because I haven’t decided the prize yet.

  • Lara // December 3, 2007 at 5:40 pm

Hee! Thanks for the props! :)

    You’re welcome!

  • Tucker // December 3, 2007 at 5:42 pm

That post was similar to, yet not quite entirely, unlike the longest post ever.

The magic number was supposed to be 42, not 54.

It should have been, I would have saved money on postage.

  • Allie // December 3, 2007 at 6:25 pm

I think BSG is 1000 times better than Star Trek too.

Question: If I watch Razor after 2.5, will that mess me up? I don’t think Season 3 comes out on DVD until APRIL.

I think Razor takes place entirely before season 3. I have no head for seasonal continuity, though. I don’t think it will mess you up at all. April is a hellova long wait.

  • rdl // December 3, 2007 at 8:52 pm

Thanks! and you really topped yourself on this one!

    You’re welcome!

  • Laurel // December 3, 2007 at 9:05 pm

Hooray for contests! I’m glad I found your blog during NaBloPoMo, too. Also, I am with Allie… what’s holding up the DVD version of BSG season 3?

I don’t know! It was supposed to be out this month! I’m blaming some obscure rights issues.

  • gregorymeyer // December 3, 2007 at 9:12 pm

This is the post to end all posts, Noelle! Thanks for the HUGE effort and the kudos. I heart The Daily Tannenbaum!

[PS - Mr. Met is kinda spooky up close. He kinda reminds me of the clown from Poltergeist.]

    He does not photograph well.

  • pagalina // December 3, 2007 at 9:53 pm

well. now i feel all special and shit. (rare bird? HA!) I can’t believe how much work you put into your list! holy shmoly! and flattery my dear, will get you EVERYTHING! :) Check’s in the mail.

    Excellent.

  • pagalina // December 3, 2007 at 9:53 pm

oh. Monday night… Heroes? or The Tinman?

I’d say Tinmnan. It’s more special. I only started watching Heroes on DVD this week.

  • alyndabear // December 4, 2007 at 12:49 am

Look at you, so organised with your comment(er)s.

    Happy December!

    Happy December to you too!

  • stilettoheights // December 4, 2007 at 8:54 am

this was great and I loved that in your blurb about me you mentioned my arch nemesis….Marie Osmond.

    That bitch

    :)

    Grrrr…. I hate her.

  • courtney // December 4, 2007 at 8:57 am

Thanks for the shout-out! I’m honored that you would even consider adding me to your RSS reader.

Hope your ankle/foot/leg/whatever lower appendage you broke is feeling better!

What’s another blog? It’s not like I have to work or anything… Oh wait a minute…

  • kir // December 4, 2007 at 12:27 pm

Wow, thanks! I could have sworn that I commented more than that though. Hmmmmm….

I could have too. Shall we call for a re-count?

  • Brando // December 4, 2007 at 3:14 pm

30! Of course! I always miss the clues that would lead to riddle answers. I would have been one of the first guys eaten by the Sphinx.

What a great blog roundup. Thanks for the nice words about my blog.

Even if you were eaten by the Sphinx, you probably would write something funny about it.

  • Mermu's Innermost Thought // December 5, 2007 at 4:38 pm

That’s so cool that you did that! Just so you know…even when I don’t comment….I always read!!

    Hope you are well!

  • Chachi // December 6, 2007 at 2:20 am

LURKER! I represent that remark…I mean…wait a tic….anyhoo, I’m glad I at least warranted a mention and I’ll make it a point to delurk much more often!

  • xsquared // December 7, 2007 at 10:16 am

Your comment about my blog made my day. Possibly my month. Thank you!

  • Kelli // December 11, 2007 at 3:12 pm

Wow. I’m just getting caught up on reads now…and find this lovely roll you’ve got ! Holy smokes!

But wait, my font is too small???Oh no! Say it ain’t so.

I’m on it though -thanks for the heads up!!!!
