Remember, back in the days of the old blog, when I contemplated getting cable at home? Well, I never did it, and now my neighbor has WiFi, so I’m getting rid of my cable connection to the internet and piggybacking off him. (He said it was okay as long as I kept offering brownies to him when I make them). I’m still certain I don’t want to get cable, because I feel like I just found a way to make $50 a month by cutting off the internet connection, and I want to spend it on more important things like wine, car washes, and the pool boy. No, I don’t have a pool, but he doesn’t need to know!
Anyway, I digress. I’m here to talk about the new fall shows. I caught up to the current season of “House” on DVD, so I can watch the current episodes if I go to the gym every Tuesday from 9-10. The only problem is that the noise of the gym makes it hard to hear all those complex doctor words, and then I get home late and have to get up early on Wednesday. Not to mention that it’s awkward if I just stand on the treadmill without doing anything for an hour.
Last night, I drove to the middle-of-nowhere-town to see Birmingham and watch the new show “Pushing Daisies.” Now, I have a new love. Or at least an additional love. Reasons that this show is awesome include Jim Dale, narrator of the show and Harry Potter on tape, and Ellen Greene, the original “Audrey” from “Little Shop of Horrors,” who I thought was lost to time, and Swoozie Kurtz, whose name is very funny to say, and an actor who played an antagonist on the very “House” in which I spoke of, and some other people who I don’t know, but excelled in their acting.
I have a feeling that this quirky show will soon go the way of “My-So-Called-Life” and “Arrested Development” as it may not appeal to the masses that have kept “Two and A Half Men” on the air. So I guess that means I’m driving an hour every Wednesday to borrow the use of Birmingham’s TV, possibly for a limited time. Either that, or I’m spending every night on the treadmill at the gym burning calories while saving money.
And on top of that, don’t even get me started on what I’m going to do this winter when “Lost” and “Battlestar Galactica” both start, because if I don’t get cable, I may spend every night of the week looking to bum a television signal from someone. I’ll keep you posted on how it goes, which will probably be some combination of all these things and waiting for Netflix to get my fix, as I am currently doing with the first season of “Heroes.”

If you have free internet, just bittorrent that! I mean, if you’re not opposed to watching the shows on your computer, that is.
I’m not opposed, but my computer is. Not enough memory to make most shows look like anything but a 1910’s Nickelodeon.

I love House! Sad thing is, we’re so far behind all of the American current seasons.. drives a girl crazy!
I know, I hate being behind, especially when people are posting spoilers on the internet!

I love House too. And The Office. If I gave up cable, I just might have to go to the gym for those two shows.

We have a TV that gets high def signals and we just got this weird looking antenna thingy that picks up high def signals (it was about 60 bucks at Best Buy). It’s AWESOME. No need for cable And there are more PBS channels than I ever thought possible. . .
That’s kind of amazing and I want to know more.

Christmas Tree — and I hate to agree with NPW again, because it goes against our roles as eternal antagonists — seriously: bittorrent. I ditched cable back in February, and I haven’t missed it at all. I can download the latest episodes of The Office or Lost within hours of their airing.
Granted, those are the only two shows I really watch, but I guess what I’m saying is: cable is for suckas.
Also, how much does this pool boy position pay? Is it like, the fifty bucks you would hypothetically be spending on cable? And would I have to like, make sandwiches or something? Because if it just involves lying around by the imaginary “pool” and occasionally pretending to “clean” it, I need some extra cash for the holidays.
The pool boy is required to do more than that. Also, see above about the sad state of my 2003 iBook. Perhaps a new computer is in order, which would mean all my savings on cable go out the window, and then some.

I taped “Pushing Daisies” on Wednesday and plan to watch it on Sunday when I’m inevitably going to be lying on my couch all day nursing a post-friend’s-wedding hangover. Glad to hear it’s good!
It’s the perfect hangover show!

I loved “Pushing Daisies.” Which is a sure sign of its imminent demise. It will go away, and “Cave Men” will be the new “Two and a Half Men.” Arrgh.
I canceled my Geico Insurance over righteous indignation of Cave Men. That, and State Farm had better rates.

Pushing Daisies was great! I’m definitely keeping that one on the TiVo line up. Cable is a rip off, but I’m just not crazy about watching shows on my computer. It is an alternative though to driving half way across the state. Although Battlestar really should be watched on the big screen.
I’m going to have to go to Birmingham’s mom’s house to watch Battlestar, even if he’s not there. You’re right, big screen is the only way to go.

I am catching up on your blog today, and how convenient, that I ALSO caught up on my parents television watching last night of which Pushing Daisies was a part. (My dad and stepmom watch WAY more TV than I do, and my Dad just loves giving the not so brief synopsis of any episode you’d care to hear about). So he gave me the synopsis of Pushing Daisies before we preceded to watch it, and I agree- great show! And I too was struck by the similarity between it and Arrested Development- the amusing narrator, the dialog that is witty and very funny if you are paying attention….and just like you I was hoping that it would have better success and stay on the air longer. I always fear that any genuinely funny show that doesn’t contain a laugh track is doomed- because how do we know what’s funny if other “people” aren’t laughing too?
Anyway, I was glad that I wasn’t the only one who made the Arrested Development connection. And I hope it stays on the air- especially cause it’s not on cable, and since I don’t have cable, I can actually watch this one.
Boy this was a giant ramble- as you can probably guess, I’m bored at work.
I love giant rambles.

Download Battlestar from itunes on your free WiFi.
Yet another reason I need to get a computer that can actually handle streaming video. My current one can’t handle the sound files.

I am glad that someone else appreciates the resurgence of Ellen Greene, as I grew up watching that version of Little Shop of Horrors bi-weekly. I used to pretend I was Audrey, and serenade my family with “Somewhere That’s Green”. Nice blog, BTW. Found it through Meghan. Hope your leg feels better. Dig the red cast.
I’m so glad I subscribe to my comments via RSS so I could catch this one well after the fact. Thanks for visiting, and keeping the past relevant!
