Nobody Listens to Techno

Just got back from Teany, Moby’s addition to the Lower East Side’s collection tragically hip bars, shops, and vegetarian products. I had the BLT, the “B” being made of soy, salted so well you would never know the difference. Of course, the last time I had real bacon, Bush was in office, we were fighting a war in Iraq, and a guy was being sworn into the Supreme Court despite radically conservative politics and questionable personal choices. Before I get too depressed, let me tell everyone about the best Vegan desserts ever made.  P & I split a piece of strawberry shortcake and a piece of chocolate peanut butter cake. I just can’t figure out how the icing was so wonderful without being made of anything dairy. Maybe I don’t want to know, but if it’s vegan, it had to be good for us. Enjoying the sugar rush, we headed to the shop next door to take a look at their products, giggling and blushing ensued.

Before that outing, I spent some quality time with my hairdresser to the stars, Max. A chemist of incomparable genius, he created the perfect coloring concoction to make my hair its shiniest, while simultaneously making sure it doesn’t make my skin seem its shiniest. (Please see my “after” picture below) He also was able to cut and style my hair so that I could fit in with the hippest of hipsters in LES. That and my hand-knitted oversize scarf provided me with enough camo for the average passer-by to think I may actually belong south of 4th St and East of 1st Ave. Still, I was happy to get back to the West Side, my personal Green Zone.

Check back tomorrow for an update on New York’s funkiest pizza: Two Boots. No, I will not be going to the Lower East Side location.

Carolyn, I would like to thank you for alerting me to your blog title. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m impressed that you found delicious vegan food. Before we left the city, we went to a place on 4th St. just east of 6th Ave and it was just veggie- not vegan- but it was not the best food ever and it turned me off to soy anything! I guess when we come back to town, you will have to travel from your new home and take us to Teany!
